May 29th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s Defense minister Kuol Manyang Juuk has not been hospitalized in contradiction of reports on the social media and other news outlet, the SPLA spokesman Brig. Gen. Lul Ruai Koang told the eye Radio yesterday.
On Monday, the Radio Tamazuj reported that the defense minister has been hospitalized in Nairobi Kenya quoting relatives.
SPLA Spokesman Lul Ruai Koang denied claims that the defense minister has been hospitalized in Nairobi saying the rumors were exaggerations against the government and the family.
“He has not been admitted but he has gone for regular medical check-up in Nairobi. these are exaggerations,” he told the Eye Radio.
However, another source from the SPLA Headquarters Bilpam said he is aware of the defense minister’s sickness and the fact he has been admitted to the Nairobi hospital but could not confirm whether or when he will be discharged.
“It’s true but I am not sure of him if discharged from hospital yet,” he said.
In April, South Sudan’s Army Chief Gen. Ajongo Mawut was rushed to the Egyptian capital Cairo after battling a short illness and died in a military hospital in the Egyptian capital. Few days later, his successor, then acting army chief, was flown to the Kenyan capital Nairobi reportedly after he succumbed to poisoning.
He was flown to Nairobi and discharged after few days and later promoted and appointed as the SPLA chief of defense forces to succeed late Gen. Ajongo Mawut who died two weeks early.
South Sudan descended into civil war in December 2013 after forces loyal to the country’s president, Salva Kiir Mayardiit and his then Governor of Northern Bahr Al-Ghazal State Gen. Paul Malong Awan went door-to-door in the capital Juba killing civilians belonging to the Nuer ethnic group sparking a nation-wide protests from top army generals from the Nuer leading to a civil war.
A peace agreement signed in August 2015 by President Kiir and rebel leader Riek Machar and negotiated under the auspices of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) and the African Union (AU) in presence of Troika and other international observers collapsed in July 2016 following fighting at the presidential palace in Juba “J1” reportedly after President Kiir ordered a failed attempt to arrest the SPLM-IO leader Riek Machar.
A peace revitalization process ended without a formal agreement between warring parties last week in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa after the regional mediated presented a peace proposal that seek to share power between different warring parties.
