April 08, 2025(Nyamilepedia) — I, BR. GEN. James Gatjiath Chuong, operation Comander of the 1st Infantry Division (Jamus) of the SSPDF, stationed at South Sudan-Sudan border in Renk, do hereby declare my defection as of today, April 6, 2025, from the South Sudan People Defense Force (SSPDF) to Sudan People Liberation Army/Movement (SPLM/A-IO) under the able leadership of HE Dr. Riek Machar Teny dhurgon (PhD), Chairman and Commander in Chief of the SPLMA-IO, and the First Vice President of the Republic of south Sudan.
Reason for my defection from SSPDF
- Salva Kiir has failed to implement the long-awaited 2018 Peace Agreement, which was hoped for by the SSPDF, others organized forces and all civil servants, who went unpaid for over the years, and the citizens of South Sudan in general, to restore peace and stability
- Salva Kiir is committing war crimes against our civil population in Nasir and other places within the country using foreign troops to kill the same people, who voted for him into the office he is misusing today, using chemical weapons and banned chemicals.
- Rampant corruptions and shamelessly selling away of south Sudan sovereignty to Uganda troops giving one soldier thousands of dollars to protect him and his closest inner circle while the SSPDF troops are suffering.
- SSPDF became charcoal sellers to survive
My advice to my brothers, who remained under command of SSPDF, is that we fought since 2013 up to 2025 alongside the SSPDF, we thought we were serving our government but at the end it appear that the government does not belong to all of us. They are humiliating our communities in our presence, and they expect us not to say anything.
Way Forward
My last word to the people of South Sudan and my brothers in the SSPDF, our problem is Salva Kiir and the people around him. Let us unite and get rid of this dictatorial regime. It is shameful to see foreign troops running up and down to protect our own government which we voted into office. If the government does not trust the SSPDF, then what are we there for? We must reclaim our sovereignty from foreigners of Salva Kiir and his son-in-law, Bol Mel.
