April 20, 2020 (Nyamilepedia) — Violent inter-community fighting has occured in South Sudan’s central state of Lakes killing 12 people including a member of the SSPDF, security agencies said on Monday.

The clashes between the Duur and Kok communities have been unleashed for three days in the town of Malek over the control of goods such as cattle, said those sources.

Witnesses to the violent incidents claimed that in the last few hours many of the belligerent settlers, even armed with firearms, returned to their villages of origin.

In several areas of South Sudan, inter-community clashes between pastoralists and farmers over control of fertile land or livestock are frequent.

On the other hand, heavy fightings between populations of diverse ethnic origin in the city of Pibor, in and around Jonglei state, caused the displacement of some 5,000 civilians, according to the United Nations mission in South Sudan (UNMISS).

That force, which seeks stability and peace in this African country, recently deployed armed detachments in areas where there are conflicts between communities.
