Speaking to Nyamilepedia, the Executive Director of the Centre for Peace and Justice (CPJ), Mr. Tito Anthony Kom, said CPJ condemns the arbitrary detention of Brigadier General Oliver Vilario Osman who was detained and taken to unknown destination by members of South Sudan National Service.

“The Centre for Peace and Justice (CPJ) condemns in strongest term possible the abtirary arrest and detention of SPLA – IO Brigadier General Charles Louis in Wau market.” The Executive Director of CPJ said.

The Executive Director says his detention sends a wrong signal and shows lack of respect between peace partners and calls on the director of National Security Service in Wau to release him without further preconditions

“Hunting peace partners could lead to another rebellion in the country because opposition forces will feel insecure where they are nationwide.” Tito Said.

“I urge the leadership of NSS in Juba to instruct subordinate colleagues in states to stop harassing opposition force to avoid confrontation.” He further added.

According to the CPJ Executive Director, the JDB should intervene before the situation further escalates.

Brigadier General Oliver Vilario Osman was arrested on Tuesday in Wau market by a Leuitenant General whom he met inside a forex exchange in Wau market and according to his wife, Farida Francis, who spoke to local media on Tuesday, Gen. Oliver’s whereabouts remains unknown.

“A while after he left, I received a phone call that he had been arrested. He was taken by a group of people and we don’t know his whereabouts yet,” Farida told Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday

“Since yesterday, Tuesday, his phone has been switched off, and we went to the headquarters of the security to find out his whereabouts, but they said they did not know his whereabouts.” Farida further added.

An SPLM/A-IO officer, Brig. Gen. Charles Louis, who spoke to the same media station confirmed the report and condemn arbitrary detention of his colleagues.

“We do not know the reason for his arrest. What happened is that a lieutenant named Fasco Michael, of the National Security, met Brigadier General Oliver, inside the forex bureau in the market, and the lieutenant took the brigadier to an unknown place”  Brig. Gen. Charles Louis explained to Radio Tamazuj.

“We are partners in the peace agreement, and they had to inform the party to which officer Oliver Osman belongs if there was a problem because he is a member of the movement. How Oliver was arrested is illegal and it affects the agreement because it is unethical,” Charles condemns the incident.

It is not clear if the national security had a warrant for his arrest or if he quarreled with the Lt. Gen. Fasco Michael who happens to be a member of National Security.
