Juba, South Sudan
August 7, 2021 — South Sudan’s Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, who was the Chairman of the People’s Liberal Party (PLP) and the principal leader of the umbrella of Other Political Parties (OPP), Peter Mayen Majongdit has been dismissed by his party members and also by the OPP.
This came days after Peter Mayen Majongdit assaulted his wife mercilessly, a move which was seen by party members as a breach to their party principles.
In a statement seen by Nyamilepedia, the senior members of the People’s Liberal Party including Mijok Lang Majak, who calls himself Founder and Non-Executive chairman, informs the public and all members of People’s Liberal Party about the dismissal of their reckless chairperson citing misconduct, domestic violence, nepotism and all criminal acts committed by Peter Mayen Majongdit.
“We the undersigned members of People’s Liberal Party National Leadership Committee do hereby pass a vote of No Confidence and a Resolution to evoke and terminate Peter Mayen as party leader and member”, the statement reads.
The party has condemned Mayen’s behaviors calling them “immortality and unethical”.
” The National Leadership Committee hereby condemns this immortality and unethical behavior which has been committed by Mr. Peter Mayen Majongdit” , the statement added.
It’s not yet clear what procedures were used to impeach him, however, several attempts to reach Peter Mayen for comment went in vain.
The People’s Liberal Party is a signatory to the September 2018 revitalized Peace Agreement and a member of Other Political Party (OPP) alliance. The two umbrellas may withdraw their nominations and ministerial appointments as Mayen has lost both his lawmaking position and may also lose his ministerial appointment.
