Civil society organization calls for disolution of tribal councils

July 22nd 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – A civil society organization in South Sudan has called for the disolution of tribals councils advising parties to the South Sudan conflict on  ethnic basis and mostly matters that are interest of ethnic groups.

Currently, there is actively the Jieng Council of Elders (JCE) working as an advisory board for South Sudan’s President, Salva Kiir Mayardiit, who had been accused of accepting wrong advices from the tribal group leading to the collapse of the country.

In a statement extended to the Nyamilepedia on Saturday, Civil Society Oranizations Network (CiSON), a consotium of civil society organizations in Lakes States, said it want tribal bodies across South Sudan’s ethnic divide disolved.

“Jieng Council, Nuer council and Equatorian council of elders should be dissolved since they are the one that cause all these confusion to the conflict in South Sudan,” said the statement by the advocacy group.

The statement further urged the mediation to be neutral and not to include their interests in the mediation for the South Sudan parties.

“[We] urge [s] mediators to be neutral negotiating this peace process and make some consultation on the ground from the citizens. Mediators should not mix their own interest into the |South Sudan peace process,” the statement further said.

The statement said the agreement should also extend the state government as it ios the case for the national level urging the government to conduct elections within eighteen months.

The statement also urged the aring parties to accept and sign the Khartoum proposal which seek to establish a presidency that would include five vice presidents including Machar, Kiir’s main rival, who would be the  First Vice President.

“All political parties, government , SPLM-IO and other oppositions should sign this peace proposal in Khartoum for the sake of Peace to the people of South Sudan but not their interests, Enough is Enough no more increments to Vice Presidents,  Ministers  deputy  ministers and that of national Assembly.” further said the statement.
