December 31st 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – A South Sudan civil society leader urged on Monday the international community to consider funding the South Sudan peace deal and not to abandon the people of South Sudan because of the actions of ‘morally corrupt’ leaders.

The Troika, always South Sudan peace sponsors, said in November that they will not fund the latest South Sudan peace agreement because, they said,  the government is led by the same corrupt leaders of the ruling SPLM.

In an exclusive interview with the Nyamilepedia on Monday, the Executive Director of the Young Adult Initiative (YAi), Gatwal A. Gatkuoth, said the international community may be right in not funding the peace agreement but should do it because of the ordinary South Sudanese citizen.

“The International community may not necessarily fund government “citing” corruption but should think about ordinary South Sudanese who need financial supports in many aspects,” he told the Nyamilepedia.

“Let the international community devise mechanisms to ensure their support to grassroots is not deterred by Government Corruption,” he added.

The civil society leader further called for the dissemination of peace by all actors including the international community to enforce the understand of the agreement by all the citizens of South Sudan.

“I think it’s very crucial to disseminate the Peace Agreement by all actors, including the international community and friends of South Sudan for South Sudanese, both the grassroots and elites to understand its contents in order to embrace and offer their full support in all possible ways during this pre-transition period and in transition time frame,” he said.

“There’s also urgent call to action to rebuild lives of the people of South Sudan through various means including community recovery programs that required solid financial supports from the International community,” he added.
