March 8th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – The leader of the holdout opposition alliance, South Sudan National Democratic Alliance (SSNDA) Gen. Thomas Cirilo Swaka this evening met the IGAD special envoy in Addis Ababa despite early rejection, sources have told the Nyamilepedia.
This come after the IGAD special for South Sudan, Amb. Ismail Wais, wrote to the holdout opposition leader along side ex-army chief Malong inviting them for different meetings in Addis Ababa and Nairobi.
Malong accepted his invitation by reiterated his call for the renegotiation of the revitalized agreement signed by the South Sudan government and opposition groups in September last year.
Early, Gen. Cirilo’s SSNDA said in a statement that they will not attend the meeting because it was not conveyed to them in writing and that the group had no time to consult.
Speaking to the Nyamilepedia on Friday, a source in Addis Ababa said Cirilo was compelled to attend the meeting after he was threatened to either accept it or risk being dealt with by the region.
“He was given two options: either to accept or face the region,” the source who declined to be named said.
