Juba, South Sudan,
June 26, 2021 – Chinese peacekeepers attached with the United Nations Mission in South Sudan have embarked on the rehabilitation of a road network linking different areas of Western Bahr el Ghazal to Wau town.
The peacekeepers are currently working on the main supply route between Wau and Aweil and were also recruiting local people with relevant engineering skills according to sources in the area.
In a statement seen by Nyamilepedia, the Udici Payam School Administrator, Philip Julo says the latest beneficiaries of the Chinese expertise are the students at the Udici Payam Primary School.
“Thanks to our peacekeepers, its [the school’s] playground has been repaired, properly leveled, and also increased in size,” he said.
“We are grateful for their immense help. Despite their hectic work schedule, they didn’t hesitate to help the school and our students, who are really happy with their new, much-improved playground,” added Julo.
In his part, captain Liu Haitao, the Chinese task force commander said they like offering services to the local communities in need.
“We always like to help the communities and locals in the areas where we carry out our task of rehabilitating main supply routes,” Haitao said.
“With the host of engineering equipment that we have at our disposal, we can do a lot for the communities, so why not do it?” he asked with an expression of humor.
