December 26th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – A Chinese mineral firm is exploring interests in geological survey project in South Sudan, the Chinese media reported on Thursday.

The president of China Mineral Resources Group Co. Ltd, Wang Pingwei, visited South Sudan’s capital Juba and met the country’s finance minister Salvatore Garang, petroleum minister Awou Chuang  and held in-depth discussions and negotiations on the national geological survey project in South Sudan.

The Chinese firm’s leader said his country will slowly open the prelude to the geological survey in the country.

During the negotiations, Wang Pingwei, who thanked the Government of South Sudan for its “high degree of trust in China’s mineral resources,” introduced the basic situation and operational advantages of China’s mineral resources.

He said the programme is based on the current situation of socio-economic, geological and mineral resources in South Sudan, and has been deeply studied by experts in relevant fields, and has a certain degree of pertinence and maneuverability.

He said through the implementation of the project, it can help South Sudan to grasp the distribution of mineral resources throughout the country and control the dominant minerals, so as to attract foreign investment, effectively promote the socio-economic development of the country and bring well-being to the people of South Sudan.

South Sudan is a country rich in mineral resources, but due to the lack of geological exploration work, the mining economy is very backward. At present, the economy of South Sudan is highly dependent on oil resources, and the government’s economic development strategy is shifting from a single oil economy to a pluralistic economy, which will fully draw on the development experience of other African countries and give priority to the development of mining.

The proposal Programme for the National Geological Survey of South Sudan is highly consistent with the economic development strategy of South Sudan and is in the long-term interests of the economic development of the country.

Senior government officials said that “our relevant departments hope to work closely with China Mineral Resources to form a formal plan as soon as possible to promote the implementation of the project, enrich the connotation of relations between China and South Sudan, and promote the further development of relations between the two countries.”
