Sep 4, 2019(Nyamilepedia) — In support of the implementation of the revitalized peace process, the Chinese government has delivered a batch of additional in-kind support totaling 1,500 metric tons of rice in an effort to expedite the establishment of cantonment sites and the formation of unified armed forces.

The official handover ceremony of the humanitarian assistance was held earlier this week at the warehouse of the National Pre-Transitional Committee (NPTC) in Juba, and was formerly attended by the Chinese Ambassador to South Sudan, Hua Ning, Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Martin Elia Lomuro, and representatives from JDB, JMCC, and JTSC.

Speaking at the ceremony, Chinese Ambassador to South Sudan Hua Ning pointed out that South Sudan peace process has reached a critical stage and stressed that there is an urgent  need to accelerate the process of finalizing the formation of armed forces before the critical deadlines come to an end.

“the South Sudan peace process has entered into a critical juncture, and the formation of a unified army is one of the most pressing issues at present. The Chinese government and people sincerely hope that South Sudan will restore peace and stability at an early date, and China decided to take the lead in providing material assistance for the construction of cantonments together with AU and some African countries,” he said.

He commended the recent humanitarian assistance provided by the African Union (AU) and urged the international community and the region to follow suit to support the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement.
