Oct 4, 2020(Nyamilepedia) — At least two people died this morning as chaos aimed at stopping the deputy president William Ruto from attending a church service erupted in Kenol town in Muranga County.
Murang’a South DCC Mawira Mungania confirmed the death saying, “One person has been killed and we have several others injured.”
The residents said that youths believed to be from Nairobi and Thika barricaded the Kenol-Muranga road by lighting tyres in the middle of the road.
“They were in five buses, and we have never seen them before, they came in and started lighting tires on the road,” a witness told Inooro TV.
A woman identified as Mercy Wangui who was cornered by the residents and pummelled to a pulp told the local TV station that they had been paid Ksh. 1,000 to disrupt DP Ruto’s meeting.
She said she was among several others who had come from Thika and Kiandutu on orders to disrupt DP Ruto’s event.
The police managed to restore calm just a few minutes before the deputy president arrived in the area.
The politicians who had graced the AIPCA church fundraising criticized the actions by those youths as well as the police.
They went ahead to point a finger at ‘state operatives’ being behind the mayhem.
“I feel very embarrassed to be a Kenyan and an MP of Jubilee Party,” Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro calling the chaos sponsored hooliganism.
“Sponsored violence by Kieleweke in Murang’a, this is very old school. It’s a church function for heaven’s sake, they want to evict us from church too? Deep state-sponsored violence in Muranga an attempt to stop DP from attending a church function at Kenol. It shall fail in Jesus name,” said Soy MP Caleb Kositany.
“Stop this power struggle, it’s causing the Nation too much trouble. Endangering lives of innocent ones.”Bunny (Power strugglers).
“I passed Kenol on my way to church in Muranga .I saw chaos among the youth ahead of some political visit. We heed HE advise and work for the people first” Said Irungu Kangata who witnessed the chaos.
DP Ruto also condemned the chaos while accusing the leaders working under Jubilee administration of being behind the chaos..
“Watu waliotuma watu kutuma teagas ni watu wanaofanya kazi chini yetu.” DP said.
“The Jubilee administration is a product of kneeling and prayer before many alters in Kenya. It cannot be the same administration that is now going to teargas the church and disgrace our alters in Kenya,” he added.
