September 15th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – A senior opposition official has accused ex-interim chairperson of South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) Gabriel Changson Chang of trying to disrupt elections conducted by the opposition umbrella in Juba yesterday.
Lawrence David Lual, a member of the SSOA electoral committee told the Nyamilepedia in a statement on Saturday that Chang had been invited to the venue to attend to the elections but the official said they were surprised when they saw personnel officers sent by Chang to disrupt the process.
“We invited him officially [and] instead of turning up for the democratic process he sent security personnel to come and disrupt the process,” Lual said.
The official further said although Chang tried to disrupt the process, order was maintained and the elections went on as organized. He however said their lives in Juba are “under threats not from the government but from Changson and his group.”
On Saturday, the opposition umbrella elected Josephine Lagu, who leads a faction of People’s Democratic Movement (PDM), as its chairperson for a period of six months. Hussein Abdel Baggi of South Sudan Patriotic Movement (SSPM) was elected the deputy chairperson and Dr. Lam Akol of National Democratic Movement (NDM) was elected the Secretary-General.
