February 11th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – The leader of the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA), Gabriel Changson Lew, is ready to negotiate with Gen. Peter Gatdet to solve differences that are threatening the unity of the alliance, a senior opposition official allied to Changson have said.
Differences unfolded in the SSOA last November following a disputed election conducted in the Sudanese capital Khartoum in which Gatdet was reportedly elected by five of eight members against Changson who was only – reports said – elected by three.
Changson later on issued a statement suspending the outcome of the elections saying no legal procedures were followed for its conduct.
Speaking to the Nyamilepedia on Sunday, SSOA spokesman, Dei Tut Weang, said the door is open for Gatdet and others to return and that the leadership is ready to negotiate with them.
“Since the day of their break away we left the door open for negotiation and made categorically clear that they are highly welcome back to SSOA without any preconditions,” he said.
Tut said Gatdet has not been elected the leader of the group and saying no election in the group’s charter.
“Gen. Gatdet is not a SSOA leader; and fore your information, in our Charter we have no election. We have a rotational leadership not election. Some individuals within SSOA opted to breakaway and that’s their prerogative,” he further said.
