Chairperson of SPLM Students’ league at Juba University denies joining Machar’s SPLM-IO

December 5th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – The Chairperson of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement Student’s League (SPLM-SL) on Sunday in a statement to the Nyamilepedia denied reports that he has defected to the SPLM-IO led by Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon.

Last week, there were reports that the Chairperson of the SPLM Student’s League at the University of Juba, Ohide Ramsey Peter, had joined Machar’s opposition group accusing the ruling faction of the SPLM of perpetuating the ongoing peace process.

In a statement he issued and extended to the Nyamilepedia on Sunday, Ramsey said he was disappointed by the reports of his defection which he blamed on “bandits” whom he referred to as enemies of peace.

Dear comrades, members of the council of the SPLM-Student League (SPLM-SL) in the University of Juba, General Assembly of the SPLM-SL and the general public, I  would want to inform you that some bandits who are enemies of peace and stability published the above-stated article in my name in order to defame me due to the best reason is known to them,” he said in the statement he extended to the Nyamilepedia.

Ramsey said the news he read on the Nyamilepedia and other  media outlets were fabrications against him and the SPLM leadership urging supporters and members of the group to ignore them.

“The news which is being circulated on Nyamilepedia and other media outlets is a fabricated lie that has no ground. It was done by those who have their personal hatred against me and the SPLM top leadership,” Ramsey further said in the statement.

He further condemned what he referred to as evil act saying he did not join any group currently rebelling against the government of the ruling SPLM faction denying that he had also resigned from his position as the Chairperson of the SPLM Student’s league.

“I, therefore, condemn this evil act in strongest terms possible. I want to make it publicly clear that I did not join any rebellious group nor did resign from my position as the chairman of SPLM-SL in the University of Juba,” he added.

The SPLM-IO led by Dr. Riek Machar, like the government, is a signatory to the Arusha Re-Unification agreement as well as the revitalized peace deal and there are already signs that the two parties will work together to achieve and maintain the current peace deal.
