July 8, 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – Some members of South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) have nominated Denay Jock Chagor, as governor for Jonglei state, a senior opposition official said in a statement on Tuesday.

This comes days after Dr. Lam Akol Ajawin, the Alliance’s secretary-general, nominated his group’s secretary-general for the same position, a nomination which has been turned down by President Salva Kiir Mayardit.

In a statement seen by Nyamilepedia, Stephen Lual, the Alliance’s deputy spokesman, said some members of the group have picked Denay Jock Chagor, the current minister of higher education, for Jonglei governor.

“The Leadership Council agreed to accept the allocation of Jonglei State to SSOA as per the resolution of the President and the First Vice President on the 17th June 2020,” Lual said in the statement extended to Nyamilepedia.

“Moreover, governing Jonglei or any other state for that matter is not an individual affair but a collective responsibility of the communities in the state and the Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity,” he added.
