CEPO welcomes reinstatement of Sudan’s Prime Minister

Juba, South Sudan,

November 23, 2021 –  The Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO), a South Sudanese civil society organization, welcomes the reinstatement of the Sudanese Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok after nearly a month of political wrangling and detention.

In a statement extended to the media on Tuesday, the Executive Director of the Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) said the reinstatement of Hamdok will raise hopes for peace and stability. 

“The reinstatement of Sudan’s Prime Minister, Abdalla Hamdok after nearly a month of a political deadlock raises hope for peace and stability in the country” Said , Edmund Yakani, the Executive Director of the Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) on Tuesday,

Under an agreement signed with Sudan’s military leader General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan on Sunday, Hamdok will lead a civilian government of technocrats for a transitional period and CEPO believes it is a remarkable act to secure peace and stability

“This is a remarkable act for securing peace and stability in Sudan. Peace and stability in Sudan is essential for a peaceful South Sudan,” Edmund continued..

He lauded the South Sudan government’s role in resolving Sudan’s political stalemate.

“South Sudan’s leadership played an effective role in the process that resulted in the reinstatement of Sudan’s Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok,” further stressed Yakani.

CEPO urged the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) heads of states and governments to always strive towards protecting the regional bloc’s sitting chairperson.
