November 11th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – The head of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Francis, has said he wish to visit South Sudan next year urging the country’s leaders to compromise for their people.

South Sudan descended into a bloody civil war in December 2013 after a political dispute in the ruling Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) led to split in the country’s then SPLA army.

Early this year, President Salva Kiir Mayardit and main armed opposition, SPLM-IO, leader Dr. Riek Machar traveled to the Vatican where they met the head of the Catholic Church who urged them to compromise for the sack of their people.

“To all those involved in the national political process to seek what unites and to overcome what divides, in a spirit of true brotherhood,” the Vatican news portal quoted Francis as saying

“The South Sudanese people have suffered too much in recent years and look forward with great hope to a better future, especially the definitive end of conflicts and lasting peace,” he added.

“I, therefore, urge those responsible to continue, tirelessly, with their commitment to an inclusive dialogue in the search for consensus for the good of the nation.”
