Catholic Church in Torit Willing to Talk to Armed Groups in Imatong State

Sept 1, 2016(Nyamilepedia) —— Torit’s Apostolic Administrator, Thomas Oliha mansignor, says the Catholic Church is willing to talk to armed youth in the Imatong State to lay down their guns and accept dialogue.

The Apostolic Administrator says the violence in the state is causing a lot of sufferings and death to innocent civilians.

He says Catholic Church is already talking with the armed youth to get their “grievances” to have a dialogue after consulting the state government.

The Apostolic Administrator says they are ready to advise the warring parties to negotiate because the Church cannot sit back and watch the people of God suffering.

Monsignor Oliha says the dialogue will help bring back people who have fled their areas.

He adds that the conflict has interrupted farming and is making roads impassable.

Davidica Ikai, Itwak Women Group chairperson in Imatong State, welcomes the Catholic Church initiative and that its neutrality will give trust to the armed group. She suggests to the Church to first listen to the problems of the fighting groups before resolution. The government of Imotong State is yet to comment.

The Imotong state experiences several attacks by SPLA-IO within the Town and outside Counties. Imatong and Namurnyang state road remains closed.

Oduho Henry a resident of Torit Town told Nyamilepedia editorial that “we are yawning for peace in Imatong state and should apply to all states across the country”

“On daily bases we are living in fears though here in Town and better those in villages.” he said.
