September 7th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – A car incident in the neighboring Kenya has killed one South Sudanese refugee and severely wounding others, sources told the Nyamilepedia on Thursday.

A UNHCR truck carrying over 40 South Sudan refugees from Nadapal transit centre to Kakuma Refugee Camp overturns between Lokichogio, and Kalobeyei resettlement camp according to residents who spoke to the Nyamilepedia.

Those who were critically injured in the car accident are receiving proper treatments at Kakuma Four Main Hospital in a joint effort between the International Rescue Committee (IRC) and the Kenya Red Cross.

The emergency team has already transferred those who have sustained serious fractures and dislocations to Kakuma Mission Hospital for further medical intervention.

One of the survivors called Kueth Thowat has an ankle sprain, he told the Nyamilepedia that, the truck was moving very fast when suddenly the front wheels lost traction on the tarmac road.

“This was a serous accident, the lorry was moving very fast heading to Kalobyei Camp, and the driver didn’t know that the truck was approaching a winding road ahead, that was the cause of the accident” he said.

Currently more than 400 refugees fleeing violence from South Sudan are stranded at Nadapal Transit Centre pending transportation to Kakuma Refugees camp.

“There are more than four hundred refugees at the border waiting for UNHCR vehicles, majority of them who came before us had spent 25 days at the Nadapal Transit Centre,” he added.
