Oct 25, 2016(Nyamilepedia) —–Mabior Garang de Mabior, a retired Captain, currently leading the mobile office of SPLM National Committee For Information and Public Relation, calls on all disgruntled youth in the country to join the forces of SPLM/A-IO to restore peace, law and order:

“The SPLM/SPLA(IO) calls on all the disgruntled youth in the country and any independent commands to join forces with the People’s Movement under the leadership of Commander Dr. Riek Machar Teny-dhuorgon as the only way to restore peace, law and order; and embark on development and prosperity for our people.” Reads part of Press Statement extended to Nyamilepedia.

According to Mabior, the SPLM/SPLA(IO) condemns the continued belligerence and negative propaganda by the regime in Juba, which continues to escalate the war in the country and in particular in Greater Equatoria and Greater Upper Nile.

The National Committee Chairman reiterates that the SPLM/SPLA(IO) rejects claims that its forces have taken Ugandans hostage and are demanding ransom.

“this is part of the counter insurgency tactics of the regime in Greater Equatoria intended to lure the Republic of Uganda into the conflict; This deception is demonstrated by the refusal of the regime to grant access to independent investigators to access the scene of these alleged crimes” Mabior explains.

According to Mabior, the SPLM/SPLA(IO) challenges the regime in Juba to produce the evidence of the said SPLM/SPLA(IO) Officers intercepted in the alleged ransom calls, if they are not indeed their own agents.

The SPLM/SPLA(IO) calls on the Government of Uganda to play a positive role in this conflict by persuading the regime in Juba to denounce violence and their futile pursuit of a military victory over the SPLM/SPLA(IO),

“it is impossible” Mabior concludes.

Mabior said the SPLM/SPLA(IO) condemn in the strongest terms the remarks of President Sava Kiir at Freedom Hall (on 19/10/2016) in which he threatened leaders from Equatoria and defended recruitment of one ethnicity into his tribal militia;

“these remarks can only exacerbate the debacle and are directly related to the conflict in the country” he said.

Mabior further that the armed opposition “also condemns the counter insurgency tactics of the regime in Greater Upper Nile, which resulted in a major government offensive around Malakal on 14/10/2016 when they attacked our military positions near Wajwok and Lalo Villages;”

“these activities and their logistics have been well documented by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Panel of Experts on South Sudan (Para. 15), which exposes the former Minister of Petroleum (and currently Minister of Finance) as the financier of these tribal militias [see: Report of the Panel of Experts on South Sudan established pursuant to Security Council resolution 2206 [2015] [S/2016/793])” Mabior added.

Mabior explains that the call on the youth to join the arm is essential for the SPLM/SPLA-IO to exercise its right to self-defence “in the face of the incessant belligerence of the regime in Juba”.

This will not be the first time the opposition is calling on the communities to organize themselves in readiness for a looming civil war.

Many critics believes that the government is preparing to wage a full scale war in the dry season which may begin from November.

For the last two months, many officials in South Sudan including the president have threatened war on communities and it is feared that the conflict could shift to ethnic war.

The president has threatened that he will relocate his army headquarters to Yei and he will directly command his troops against Equatorian youths and SPLA-IO forces.
