Juba, South Sudan
December 15, 2021—The former Spokesperson of Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-In-Opposition (SPLM-IO) under Dr. Riek Machar Teny has accused an unspecified elements of using Transitional Justice to play dirty.
Commemorating the December 15, the day on which thousands of civilians mostly from the Nuer ethnic group were massacred in the capital by a tribal militia organized under the auspice of president Salva Kiir, Mabior Garang de Mabior accused the top politicians of politicizing the idea of transitional justice, saying they do not really care about the people and their well being.
In a statement seen by Nyamilepedia, Cpt. Mabior Garang writes his commemoration message for 15 December in which he berated some an unspecified elites for using the transitional justice to play their interests at the expense of the victims of the civil war.
“As we remember all the innocent souls who perished on this day in 2013. As we remember those who died in the revenge attacks which followed the Juba Massacre”, Mabior says in a statement.
“The traditional elite are using the issue of Transitional Justice to play their dirty politics. They do not really care about our people”, he added.
The son of the former Chairman of the ruling party SPLM/A took a bold decision in 2014 to joint the SPLM/A-IO in solidarity to protest Salva Kiir’s cruel leadership and poor governance.
For the past seven years, Mabior remain an active cadre of the SPLM/A-IO until recently when he got swept away by the Kitgwang Declaration that later discouraged politicians like Mabior from preaching political ideologies.
Since Mabior returned to Juba at the invitation of President Kiir but then proceeded to Nairobi on medical grounds leaving doubts whether he will return to Juba and whether he will re-joint any of the main political parties in the country.
