Juba, South Sudan
September 15, 2021 – South Sudan’s Minister of Cabinet Affairs Minister, Hon. Martin Elia Lomoro, has slammed the international community for not being “good friends” of South Sudan but interest groups who are trying to topple the government of South Sudan.
Speaking during an occasion marking the third anniversary of 2018 peace deal on Saturday, Lomuro says South Sudan has no international friends because those who claimed to be friends are were here to change the incumbent regime in the country.
“Who says there are friends, perhaps in the region but in the international community, let me put it white and blank, where are our friends? Those that you see are working otherwise. They are for regime change,” cabinet minister Lomuro said.
Elia claims that the fact that the International Community failed to fund the revitalized peace agreement should serve as a simple prove that they are not for the good of the country.
At the same occasion, The Minister of Peace Building, Stephen Par Kuol argued that the international community is unwilling to support the revitalized peace agreement because they believe the government is “corrupt”, adding that funding peace is less affordable than offering humanitarian assistance.
“We have tried this (regime change) when we were in the opposition, but it did not work. So, I told these diplomats during our engagement with them to help fund the agreement so that the refugees and internally displaced persons can return to their homes. Instead of working for regime change, I ask them to support this current (transitional) government of the revitalized peace agreement, not the regime”, Hon. Par Kuol explains.
