November 16th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – The British ambassador to South Sudan Christopher Trott has called on South Sudan’s parliament to incorporate the revitalized peace agreement into the constitution.
This came after the British envoy paid a courtesy visit to the country’s parliament speaker Anthony Lino Makana in his office in Juba on Friday.
“Today I called on the Speaker of the Parliament. We discussed the role of the legislature in a democracy in holding the executive to account,” Trott said in a tweet on Friday.
“And I urged him to ensure the R-ARCSS was quickly incorporated into the constitution.”
South Sudan government and opposition groups signed a revitalized peace agreement in September last year to end the ongoing civil war which began in December 2013.
The agreement provided for its incorporation into the Transitional Constitution of the Republic of South Sudan 2011 (amended in 2015).
The action on the constitution has however faced a lot of difficulties such as the incorporation into the constitution.
