August 27, 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – The United Kingdom has condemned last week’s rebel attack on vice-president James Wani Igga’s convoy in which six members of the vice-president’s guards were killed.
The incident which took place at Lobonok Payam in Central Equatoria state also resulted in the kidnapping of one senior officer of the President Guards and the wounding of two other members of Igga’s bodyguards.
“All signatories although they signed the Rome Declaration and they signed the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement, they are not fully part of the CTSAMVM and so CTSAMVM is not able to look into incidents like what happened this week, which we condemned,” British Ambassador to South Sudan Christ Trott said on today.
“There shouldn’t be an attack in this country. So we need to see them brought into the process, so the moment there is a violation of any of these agreements, then CTSAMVM can give us a report on what is happening so we understand who is responsible, what happened and we can hold them accountable.”
