November 13, 2019(Nyamilepedia) — The United States of America is gravely disappointed with the failure of President Salva Kiir and Dr. Riek Machar to agree on the formation of a Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity by the established deadline of November 12.
The U.S. Department of States warns that the U.S. government will reevaluate its relationship with the government of South Sudan and come forward with an effective mechanism that will take actions against the South Sudanese leaders who are impeding peace process.
“In light of this development, the United States will reevaluate its relationship with the Government of South Sudan. We will work bilaterally and with the international community to take action against all those impeding South Sudan’s peace process.” Read part of the statement by the US Department of State.
“Their inability to achieve this basic demonstration of political will for the people of South Sudan calls into question their suitability to continue to lead the nation’s peace process.” The American Secretary of State continued.
According to the US Secretary of State, Hon. Michael R. Pompeo, the United States looks to work in partnership with the region to establish a new paradigm to achieve peace and a successful political transition in South Sudan and will continue to stand with the people of South Sudan during this difficult period.
Pompeo was appointed by president Donald Trump on April 26, 2018 with consent of the Senate.
Although the previous administrations have condemned the South Sudanese leaders and expressed their disaffection very little has been achieved through individuals sanctions so far.
While the United States has imposed arms embargoes and sanctioned individual politicians and army generals, South Sudan continues to explore other options including working with the regional leaders, Russia and China to evades Americans policies and measures.
