BREAKING: Top SPLA-IO commander returns to Juba two years after withdrawing from the capital

December 19th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – A top SPLA-IO commander has returned to the South Sudanese capital Juba after spending more than two years in the bush following the outbreak of fighting in the capital in July 2016.

Gen. James Koang Chuol Ranley fled Juba along with Machar following a fierce fighting that forced the main armed opposition group to withdraw from the 2015 peace deal.

According to the army spokesman Maj. Gen. Lul Ruai Koang, Gen. Koang who is the SPLA-IO  Deputy Chief of General Staff for Operation and Angelina Jany Teny, Machar’s wife and the Chairperson of National Committee for Security and Defense among other senior security leaders have just arrived in the capital Juba.

Gen. Lul told the Nyamilepedia this afternoon that the opposition delegation is in Juba to take part in various meetings with the government over ceasefire monitoring.

“They are coming to hold consultative meetings on various monitoring mechanisms,” Lul  said in a statement to the Nyamilepedia this afternoon.
