Juba, South Sudan,
July 22, 2021 – The South Sudan Football Association, the country’s national football governing body, has elected Gen. Augustino Maduot Parek as its new president with a vote of 20 out of 37 total counts.
The declaration of the results was made by the SSFA Thursday afternoon in the capital Juba. Mr. Maduot was declared the President-elect in the second elective after, together with other competing candidates, initially failing to score above the 50% landmark as required by Article 30 Sub Section 4 of the SSFA status.
Maduot will be deputized by Charles Oduar who was voted the Vice President-elect of the association.
Mr. Maduot declared interest in running for the presidency of the national football governing body in May with his campaign-themed “Football for National Pride”.
The SSFA president-elect served as the director of passport and immigration. In 2016, he was fired by President Salva Kiir for an undisclosed reason.
He has worked on building his sports credentials since then and founded Citizen Football Club that plays in the second division of the Juba local league.
By the time he joined the campaign trail, Maduot was the president of the Juba Local Basketball Association.
Other contestants who competed against Madut were former international referee Lual Maluk, Yohanna Musa, and former president of Simba FC, Advocate Peter Achuil.
