Nov 08, 2018(Nyamilepedia) — The main armed opposition group, the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM/A-IO) in Bieh state has accepted to abide by the directives of the Chairman and Commander-in-Chief, Dr. Riek Machar Teny and his call for full and unhindered humanitarian access to the most affected population in remote areas.
“Pursuant to the chairman and commander in chief H.E. Dr. Riek Machar Teny Dhurgon (PhD) orders which he had issued to all the SPLM/A-IO leadership under the federal system of governance (21 State) to implement [the] agreement to the letter and allow all warring parties with the order of freedom of movement and accessibility” said Hon. John Daniel Bol, the Information Secretary for Bieh state.
The main opposition faction states that it has for the first time allowed full, safe and unimpeded passage of humanitarian relief to neighboring Pibor State that has never received humanitarian assistance for years.
“Henceforth, the leadership of the SPLM/A-IO in Bieh state is hereby implementing the orders by allowing the humanitarian access to Pibor State from Akobo East County and dispatching four WFP boats carrying food aid to Lokurmach” Hon. John Daniel Bol continued.
The leadership of the opposition group in Bieh state calls on all actors in the state to strictly observe and comply with the new measures as directed by the Chairman of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement/Army (SPLM/A-IO), Dr. Riek Machar Teny.
“Therefore you are all urged to comply with the same order so that agreement will have better room for implementation” he said.
South Sudan warring parties signed the peace deal in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in a bid to cease hostilities among themselves and allow humanitarian access to the most affected area and vulnerable population centers in the country.
On Wednesday, the Ceasefire and Transitional Security Arrangements Monitoring Mechanism noted that the peace process is gradually gaining momentum.
