BREAKING: South Sudan peace deal suspended after government request

July 19th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan peace agreement on governance dossier which was expected to be signed on Thursday evening in the Sudanese capital Khartoum has been indefinitely adjourned after a request by the South Sudan government, the Sudanese foreign minister announced on Thursday evening.

The Sudanese foreign minister announced on Tuesday that the South Sudan parties had agreed to sign a peace deal on Thursday, but some parties like the government and the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA)  voiced rejection of the power sharing deal unveiled by the mediation on Monday.

In a statement to reporters on Thursday evening,  the Sudanese Foreign Minister, Al-Dirdiri Ahmed, said the Sudanese mediation has received a written letter from the South Sudan government asking for the talks to be put on hold until it submit some proposal to the mediation.

“We have just received a written letter from South Sudan government saying it is not ready to join the peace agreement. It said it wants to submit some proposals to ameliorate the document so that the agreement becomes inclusive,” announced the Sudanese diplomat.

The top Sudanese diplomat said also the mediation want to give time to the parties and within which the mediation would study the new proposal presented by the South Sudanese government.
