October 15th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s Trasnsitional National Legislative Assembly (TNLA) on Monday endorsed the September 12 agreement signed by Kiir with opposition groups in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, more than a month since its signing.
Kiir’s controversial administration and opposition groups signed the revitalized agreement in the Ethioppian capital last month in an effort to try to end the five-year old brutal conflict in the young African country.
South Sudan’s opposition groups, both armed and unarmed, have ratified the agreement almost after it was signed in Ethiopia but the government has remained reluctant to endorse the agreement.
The agreement, also known as the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan or R-ARCSS, should have been ratified by the parties within 24 days of its signing.
The African Union Peace and Security Council on Friday in a communique issued in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia welcomed the decision by opposition groups to ratify the agreement urging the government to endorse it to expedite the end to the ongoing civil war.
