February 11th 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan government has agreed to a regional proposal which would see the number of states decreased from 32 to 10 or 23, the ministry of information said in a statement this morning.
The ministry of information said in the statement that the government was ready to implement the outcome of the IGAD council of ministers in which they said the country should return to ten states.
It did not however clarify whether the government accepted 10 or 23 which were all discussed during the weekend’s IGAD summit in Addis Ababa.
“The Government of the Republic of South Sudan under the able Leadership of H.E Salva Kiir Mayardit is ready to implement the outcome of the consultation in regard to the number of States in the country,” the statement said.
The information ministry social media Facebook page quoted the minister of information Michael Makuei Lueth.
“This was stated by the Minister of Information, Communication Technology and Postal Services the Official Government spokesperson, Michael Makuei Lueth in Addis Ababa recently,” the statement said.
