Juba, South Sudan,
July 05, 2021 – The Somalia National Army has announced that it has killed a senior operative of the terrorist group al-Shabaab.
Brigadier General Odowa Yusuf Raghe, Somalia National Army commanded told Voice of the Army, a national army’s broadcaster that the senior member of the terrorist organization was killed in the north-eastern part of the capital.
Gen Raghe revealed the name of the killed jihadist as Mohamed Abdi Sabriye also known as Tosow, adding that he was a top operative based in the Middle Shabelle region, north of Mogadishu.
“The operation was conducted in a location called Dar-ul-Salaam in Adan Yabal district (about 120 km northeast of Mogadishu),” he said.
The army says Sabriye was killed sometime this month.
The Somali army, with the support of peacekeepers under the African Union Mission in Somalia (Amisom), has been waging intense operations in Hirshabelle and Galmudug States in Central Somalia in a bid to weaken the jihadists ahead of elections in the coming 3 months.
In late June, a Somali court executed 18 members of the al-Shabaab in Galkayo town of Mudug, the Puntland State of East Somalia after an earlier conviction. The sentence was seen as one of the major steps in fighting al-Shabaab.
