BREAKING: Over 100 people killed as cattle raiders storm cattle camp in Tonj

January 21st 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – More than one hundred (100) people have been killed and over 50 injured as cattle raiders from Northern Liech State attack Luac-Jang village in Tonj state during the early hours of Sunday.

Several sources told the Nyamilepedia that as many as 600 youth from Mayom county in Northern Liech state crossed into Tonj state on Saturday night and attacked a Tonj village belonging to the Luac-Jang community killing 117 people and injuring 56 others.

On Tuesday, cattle raiders from Tonj state attacked a Bul-Nuer cattle settlement in Loat, Bul East county killing almost 30 people and wounding scores. Around 3000 herds of cattle were stolen.

“Yesterday, Nuer youth from Unity state attacked a cattle camp belonging to the Luac Dinka community in Tonj state. At the moment, 117 people have been killed and 56 people have been critically wounded,” a source told the Nyamilepedia from Tonj on Sunday evening.

For his part, the Tonj state information minister James Bath Ayiek who spoke to Radio Miraya said eighty (80) people have been killed and 30 others have been wounded in the attack he said was carried out by Nuer youth from Mayom.

He said armed youth stormed four cattle camps belonging to the Luac-Jang community in Tonj East, and opened fire on their victims, including women and children, and stole an unspecified number of cows adding that the incident has prompted massive displacement of civilians into nearby bushes.

Ayiek says security has been stepped up in hot-spot areas along the border with Northern Liech state.
