Dec 4, 2016(Nyamilepedia) —— Latest reports from South Sudan’s Yei River County indicate that SPLA-IO has captured new areas this morning, December 4th, in Yei River County.
According to Brigadier General John Sunday Martin, a commander of SPLA-IO in 9th division, the rebels defeated a government troop this morning in Lasu, Yei River State.
“The brilliant force of SPLA- IO this morning, 4th December is in full control of Lasu \ Lonbongo in Yei River State.” Said Brig. Gen. John Sunday Martin.
Martin believes that their forces inflicted heavy casualties on government troop forcing them to retreat.
“The 45 minutes battle cost great loses on Government forces where as the revolutionary forces captured great number of arms and ammunitions including armed vehicle and killed at least 16 government soldiers.” He said.
Brig. Gen. John Sunda alleged that the defeated government troops were forced to cross into DRC by SPLA-IO forces.
“The defeated Government force crossed into DRC who are now under protection of Congolese Army in Aba territory.” Sunday said.
In a separate battle on December 2nd, Martin reiterates that their forces also defeated Salva Kiir forces in Korogulu, 7 kms away from Yei town.
“In another separate battle field on 2rd, December; our forces defeated government forces near Korogulu in Yei River State when the convoy of the government forces left Yei on 7Â vehicles taking reinforcements to their surrounded comrades in Lasu/Lonbongo, and the revolutionary force are in full control of Korogulu, 7kms away from Yei” Brig. Gen. Martin continued.
Brig. Martin reports that their forces captured two mounted trucks, arms, ammunitions and prisoners of war from Salva Kiir’s SPLA forces. Â He said two among the POWs are Congolese nationals.
“The revolutionary forces captured 2 vehicles with arms and ammunitions, including 3 government forces as Prisoner of War whereas 2 are Congolese national, fighting alongside the government forces since 2013”
According to UN Reports in New York, South Sudan government has transported over 4000 militias to Equatoria in the past two weeks to fight SPLA-IO rebels as President Salva Kiir travels to South Africa.
