October 19th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s main armed opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny has left the Sudanese capital Khartoum heading to Juba, a spokesman has said.
Puok Both Baluang, the main armed opposition group’s director of information said in a statement extended to Nyamilepedia that Machar left Khartoum this morning and his visit to Juba may last for days.
“The SPLM/SPLA (IO) would like to inform members and the public at large that, the Chairman and Commander in Chief of the people’s movement SPLM/SPLA (IO) and First Vice President designate, H.E Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon accompanying by a high-level delegation left for Juba, South Sudan from the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, this morning at about 7:50 AM, on a visit expected to last several days, at the invitation of the United Nation Security Council (UNSC) to take part in a meeting with President Salva Kiir that called by the (UNSC) delegation,” the statement said.
In Juba, Machar is expected to meet President Salva Kiir and a delegation of the United Nations Security Council which is visiting Juba on Sunday.
The aim of the visit by the UNSC is to meet the parties and discuss the pending issues which may affect the unity government Kiir said he will form on November 12 as opposition wants postponement.
