September 9th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – The face-to-face meeting between President Salva Kiir Mayardit and main armed opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny has began at the Presidential Palace in Juba, government and opposition officials said this evening.
Machar returned to Juba on Monday to meet President Salva Kiir Mayardit for the face-to-face meeting to discuss the implementation of the revitalized peace deal.
Speaking to Nyamilepedia this evening, the SPLM-IO director of information Puok Both Baluang said from Juba that the important meeting between the two main rivals which began at 3pm is still ongoing.
“The meeting began at 3:00 pm Juba local time and the two principals are still in the meeting,” Balaung told the Nyamilepedia from Juba.
He said the meeting is focusing on the number and borders of the states, the security arrangement, the permanent constitution and the funding for the activities of the NPTC.
“I don’t think the meeting will end today because the two principals are in an extensive discussion on the number and borders of the states, the security arrangement, the constitution and funding,” Baluang said.
“Frankly speaking, there are a lot of issues being discussed,” he added.
Baluang said he is hopeful that the two principals will find a way forward which he said will lead to a permanent settlement of the conflict in the world’s youngest nation.
For its part, the Presidency said in a statement that the meeting between the two rivals, turned peace partners, will “be discussing outstanding issues ahead of November deadline for the formation of the Transitional gov’t of National Unity.”
