July 15, 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit has fired the minister of higher education Denay Jock Chagor and appointed him as the governor of Jonglei state, according to a decree read out on the state-run SSBC.
He was appointed on the ticket of South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA).
In separate decrees, the South Sudanese president also appointed Gabriel Changson Chang as the minister of higher education.
He also appointed Deng Alor Kuol as minister for Eastern African COmmunity Affairs to replace late John Luk Jok who passed away in May in the country’s capital Juba following a short illness.
Denay’s appointment comes weeks after the group refused to take the governorship of Jonglei state as they demanded that they are given the oil-rich Upper Nile state which has so far been given to the main armed opposition group, SPLM-IO, led by First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar.
Following the Alliance’s rejection of Jonglei, the group’s Secretary-General Dr. Lam Akol Ajawin, nominated his group’s secretary-general General Mahjuob Biel Turuk for Jonglei governor but was rejected by Kiir.
Dr. Lam has not yet reacted to the latest development.
