Feb 19th, 2018(Nyamilepedia) — South Sudan government also known as the “Transitional Government of National Unity” accuses the Minister of Foreign Affairs, a former political detainee, of serving two masters with conflicting interests.
According to President Kiir’s loyalists in the government, Alor is not one of them but a loyalist of an opposition group known as the G10 that are believed to be campaigning to overthrow Kiir’s government.
Speaking to Al-Maugif Arabic Newspaper, South Sudan’s Information Minister, Michael Makuei Lueth, accuses Deng Alor of lobbying secretly for sanctions and punitive measures against peace violators and members of Kiir’s government.
Makuei calls on Deng Alor to resign and leave the Ministry to a government loyalist who will serve the interest of his government, however, he regrets that Alor is not willing to resign either.
“We want him to resign from his position, but he does not want to do so,” Michael Makuei said.
Hon. Makuei also accused John Luke Joak, a former member of rebel group led by Cde. Pagan Amum, who remains in exile and lobbies for a technocrat government that will exclude both Kiir and Dr. Machar.
According to Makuei, both Luke and Alor are opposition from within but he fears that his government has no power to remove them given that they landed in their current positions through power sharing that was based on August 2015 peace agreement that has now collapsed.
Both Alor and Luke are yet to response to Makuei’s criticism, however, Dr. Majak Agot another member of SPLM-FD calls on Michael Makuei Lueth to shut-up saying that it is none of his business or that of Salva Kiir to remove members of FDs in TGNU.
Dr. Majak believes that it is only FDs who have power to remove both Deng Alor and John Luke Joak, and not Salva Kiir’s government!
“If we want to withdraw our members from the government; we can do it at any time. It is a not decision in the hands of Salva Kiir and Michael Makuei,” Majak said.
