Juba, South Sudan
August 18, 2021— A South Sudanese lender identified as Thalage Wal Goch has taken it to media mortifying the public that he has sued the country’s second most powerful man and pledged to take a legal action against him due to his unpaid loans.
The lender claims that he had loaned Dr. Riek Machar a lumpsum amount of money that is yet to be verified for three consecutive years right from 2014 up to 2016 but the first vice president is failing to pay him back his money despite the patience he claims to have exercised.
In a statement seen by Nyamilepedia, Thalage Wal Goch, announced it on social media that he filed a lawsuit against the First Vice President, Dr. Machar who doubles as Chairman and Commander-In-Chief of the struggling SPLM/A-IO for his alleged failure to refund the loan on time.
“Today, 18/08/2021, I filed a CIVIL LEGAL CASE against Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon, First-Vice President of the Republic of South Sudan, and Chairman and Commander-In-Chief of the SPLM/SPLA-In OPPOSITION (IO) for failing and refusing to repay a loan he had borrowed since 2014, 2015 and 2016”, the statement reads.
“I made my decision to take this case further to the South Sudan Court through the Ministry of Justice to recover my loan after a failed meeting between me, Thalage Wal Goch (lender, my lawyer and Dr Riek Machar (borrower) his team, 13 people including his 4 lawyers in his Office on 17/08/2021 in Juba, South Sudan”, Goch added in a statement.
According to the statement, Goch claims that he has been mocked, threatened and intimidated at the office of the First Vice President by some elements he failed to identify by names for asking his loan notwithstanding the patience he believes to have shown..
“After 8 years (2014-2021), waiting patiently, today Dr Riek Machar refused to repay my loan and resolve this case amicably, but instead of threatening, intimidating and mocking me during the meeting inside the Office of First-Vice President of the Republic of South Sudan after I waited for long 6 hours from 11am to 5pm at the reception”, Goch lamented.
“For these reasons, I stand solidly behind my decision to pursue my legitimate right till justice prevail sooner or later”,he further inserted in a statement.
Attempts to reach the Press Secretary in the Office of the First Vice President for comments but all went in vain and Nyamilepedia’s editorial staff could not independently verify the credibility of this information.
