September 24th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – Fierce fighting had flared up in the Central Equatoria region’s Jamara and Mundu in yesterday but the SPLM-IO deputy military spokesman said in a statement that the fighting has resumed this morning.
“Fighting resumed this morning in Mundu, Lainya county as the regime’s forces continues with offensive against the SPLA IO position,” he said.
Yesterday, Lam said the government has attacked their forces in the village of Jamara and Mundu in defiance of the peace agreement signed last week in Addis Ababa.
“This afternoon the 23/09/2018 at about 2:00pm, the regime’s forces came out of Jamara centre and attacked our forces in Mundu. This happened after the regime sent logistical reinforcements to their forces in Jamara from Juba two days ago,” he wrote yesterday evening adding that “The fight ended late evening and we believe it will escalate in the morning hours of tomorrow.”
He said another force belonging to the South Sudan government have arrived in the kajo-keji county to reinforce their forces in Agana and Bori to attack the SPLM-IO.
“Secondly, the regime’s reinforcements have also arrived in Kajo keji this afternoon to give support to their forces in Agana and Bori to make another aggressive attempt on mangalatore and Kendiri any time from now,” he said adding “The SPLA IO believes that these continues aggression in Yei River, Liech States and many other frontlines will not end soon.”
He accused the government of deploying anti-aircrafts to derail the free access of the CTSAMM, a peace monitoring body and the UNMISS for the area.
“It should also be noted that the regime brought in anti aircraft in Lainya area which is aimed at stopping CTSAMM and UNMISS from flying into the affected areas to investigate violations,” he said.
“Therefore, the SPLA IO calls upon the guarantors of this R-ARCSS to restrain the regime before we go back to full scale war. The resistance continues,” he added.
