December 13th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – Fierce fighting has erupted among opposition forces over night near the Sudanese border in norther Unity State, several sources have told the Nyamilepedia this morning.
One military source within the SPLA-IO told the Nyamilepedia this morning that forces of the South Sudan United Movement (SSUM) led by Gen. Peter Gatdet Yaka attacked their assembly point over night at Abukadima Malang between Unity state/Sudan border.
“We have been attacked in our own assembly point by the SSUM/A of Gen. Peter Gatdet Yaka yesterday night,” the source told the Nyamilepedia on Thursday on the condition of anonymity.
The source said one General along with wife was abducted and three people including a woman and a child were killed as well.
“Three people, a woman and a child included, were killed in the attack and a General named Gen. Khan Diew Gatluak and his wife were kidnapped in the attack,” the SPLA-IO source claimed during the interview with the Nyamilepedia.
The source said it is a clear violation of the revitalized version of the 2015 peace agreement signed in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa by President Salva Kiir and opposition groups including the SPLM-IO led by Dr. Riek Machar and SSUM/A led by Gen. Gatdet.
“This is clear intended violation to the country’s existing R-ARCSS on which it’s implementation is taking place. Therefore, the SPLM/A-IO under the Leadership of H.E Dr. Riek Machar Teny Dhurgon is informing the CTSAMVM, JMEC, IGAD partners, the AU, TROIKA, EU, US, CHINA and RUSSIA, to investigate such a criminal act and condenm it,” he further said.
Opposition officials from Gatdet’s SSUM were not available for comment.
The two feuding forces are signatories to the agreement and it is not clear why they would engage each other in a fight while the parties are speeding up the implementation of the agreement.
