July 10th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – Fierce fighting has erupted this afternoon between government forces and troops loyal to the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM-IO) in Morobo county of the country’s Yei River State, several sources told the Nyamilepedia today.
A Resident of Morobo town told Nyamilepedia on the condition of anonymity that government troops left this morning and attacked the opposition forces loyal to the country’s former First Vice President, Dr. Riek Machar Teny.
He said the fighting is still ongoing but did not report any casualty.
“Government troops left the town today with seven pick-up land-cruisers. They went to Isebi village and fought there with the SPLM-IO of Riek Machar. The fighting is still going on and there is no yet any casualties,” the resident said.
For their part, the SPLA-IO accused government troops of leaving their trenches and attacking them in Isebi, few kilometers outside Morobo town.
“This morning the 10/07/2018, over 200 regime’s soldiers went out of Morobo Town and attacked the SPLA IO base at Isebi in Lujulo Payam of Morobo County, Yei River State. The fighting is still ongoing. Details will follow later,” Lam Paul Gabriel, the SPLA-IO deputy spokesman said in a statement seen by the Nyamilepedia.
The group calls upon the CTSAMM and UNMISS to monitor what it called “aggressive development” which it said is aimed at derailing the ongoing peace process.
Isebi is a rebel-held village in Morobo county and any fighting in the area suggests the government has attacked the opposition stronghold in the state of Yei River.
