October 26th 2018 (Nyamilepedia) – Fierce fighting has erupted in a village in Yei River State’s Kajo-Keji County between rival forces, the SPLM-IO has said.

South Sudan government and opposition groups including the SPLM-IO led by former First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon signed a permanent ceasefire agreement in June as a step to end the war.

The parties later signed the long-awaited revitalized agreement last month in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa to end the ongoing civil war raising for end to fighting.

However, fighting in many parts of the country has continued despite the signing of the ceasefire and the final peace deal by the parties to the conflict.

In a brief saidtattatement issued on Friday morning,  the SPLA-IO deputy military spokesman Col. Lam Paul Gabriel said government troops were on the offensive when they attacked their position at Kendri in Kajo-Keji County.

“The Regime is on offensive against the SPLA IO in Kendiri, Kajo keji County. Clashes started at about 7:20AM of 26/10/2018 and still ongoing,” he said.

The latest fighting is part of tones of violations by the parties to the agreement who has been accusing each other of attacking each other.
