Ethiopia’s alleged coup leader killed by security forces near Bahir Dar – Prime Minister’s Office

June 24th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – Ethiopian coup leader who attempted to takeover a regional government on Saturday evening has been killed, the Prime Minister’s office announced.

On Sunday, Ethiopian government said it has foiled a coup attempt allegedly orchestrated by General Asamnew Tisige who at the time, according to the government, was on the run.

Speaking to Reuters this afternoon, Negussu Tilahun, the spokesman for the Ethiopian premier’s office, said General Tsige was killed on Monday in an area near the Amhara state capital Bahir Dar without giving more details.

The failed coup attempt on Saturday led to the killing of four senior government and military officials, including the army chief of staff.
