The results, which were just announced at 6pm today, by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) confirmed that the UDA presidential candidate garnered 7,176,141 and against his tough rival, Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga, who finished the race with 6,942,930.

According to the IEBC, Ruto has won by 50.49% and trailed by Odinga with 48.85%.

Odinga, who has been one of the toughest opposition candidates in the continent has contested 5 times before and came very close to winning the elections; however, he felt short by a small margin each time leading sometimes to protests and court battles to try to overturn the results;

At the time of the announcement  Rt. Hon. Odinga did not make it to the Bomas of Kenya where the results were announced.

The announcement was delayed by at least 3 hours but the IEBC decided to proceed without Odinga but the rest of his team who were present at the venue.

The president-elect has delivered his speech with assurances that his administration will not look into the past but into the future.

Ruto stressed how difficult his journey has been to the presidency, saying he has faced all odds; however, he promised to work for all Kenyans and for better Kenya.
