December 8, 2021—- South Sudan government announced today that the Boma County in Pibor Administrative area has been connected with internet service.
In a statement obtained by Nyamilepedia, the ministry of information and communication under the auspices of Mr. Michael Makuei Lueth says they used the Universal Service Access Fund (USAF) to support the process of internet connectivity in South Sudan especially remote places which are very hard to connect.
“Today, Boma County in the Greater Pibor Administrative Area is on air.” said the statement issued by Ministry of Information and Communication.
“As it’s instituted by relevant institutions and NCA, we used the Universal Service Access Fund (USAF) to support the development of telecommunication services and to advanced our agenda of connecting South Sudan in the areas not easily accessed by mobile operators”, the statement added.
The Ministry acknowledges that such services would not be provided without help from the MTN and other telecommunication providers in the country.
“In partnership with MTN, the National Ministry of Information Communication Technology and Postal Services through the National Communication Authority (NCA) was able to bring connectivity to Boma, a historical town in the heart of liberation struggle that led to the independence of South Sudan”, the statement further elaborated.
According to the statement, now the inhabitants of Boma County are enjoying strong network of 4G internet, meanwhile acknowledging Engineers and MTN for what they described as “job well done” in their area.
“Now people in Boma area are enjoying 4G network with high speed Internet. We appreciate the industrious engineers at the site and MTN team for making this possible”, the statement stressed.
