Bentiu Community in Egypt elects new leadership amid growing discontent

July 27, 2021 — People of Bentiu Community in Arab Republic of Egypt have elected the new leadership for the year 2021-2022 on Friday Date,  July 23, 2021.

Speaking to Nyamilepedia, the newly elected leader, Ruai Thak Zoar said that he will work hard to achieve the unity of purpose and common understanding between all Bentiu sub-communities residing in Egypt and pledged to work out the needs of students.

” My first priority to work hard for our unity and I will make sure that all communities are brought together to live in peace and harmony”, leader elect Thak said.

Thak stressed that he was brought to this world by a woman and as such he promised to work in collaboration with Bentiu women in Egypt to fulfill the demands of their citizens.

” I was born by a woman, from today on, Liech women league in all aspect, we stand together”, Newly elected Chairman emphasized.

Speaking to Nyamilepedia on Friday, the former Deputy Chairman of Bentiu Community in Egypt, Gattiek Gatkuoth Wichar confirmed that the people of Bentiu Community in Egypt elected Mr. Ruai Thak Zoar as the chairman, Bijany Kiir as Secretary General and Nukta Makuei as Council Chairperson.

According to Gattiek,  the election was free and fair and it was conducted successfully despite the challenges it had encountered.

“our people have successfully elected their new leaders of their choice however the election was almost disrupted at the late hours but thanks God it was done”, Wichar said.

The former Deputy Chairperson was referring to a protest by a group of disgruntled members of Bentiu Community who disagreed with how the elections were organized.

According to a press statement issued by this group, which was composed mostly of elders, the electoral committee “denied two of the seven counties of Unity state of their right to participate in the election”

On their part the disgruntled group denied calling the Egyptian police to disrupt the elections; however, they admit that they did not want the elections to proceed as they were making arrangement to reconcile the community from past grievances that divided them into two camps.

The two counties that boycotted the elections are Mayiandit and Leer, and according to their press release, they couldn’t endorse unconstitutional amendment of the Bentiu Community’s constitution.
