Oct 26, 2020(Nyamilepedia) — Babu Emmanuel Lokiri, the Juba University student who was accused of the August Rock city triple homicide have been sentenced to death by hanging.
A Juba court announced the verdict on Monday morning stating that Babu, 24, was found guilty of the gruesome killing of 9-year-old Naomi, 7-year-old Blessing and 4-year old Nor Edward.
Emmanuel was arrested by the police after three small siblings were found murdered at their home in Rock city, juba.
The defendant had given two contradicting testimonies in court on different hearings. He first confessed to the murder saying he killed out of anger.
“I found them watching television. I then put my phone to charge. I asked them where their mother was and they said she had gone out. When my phone charged a bit, I pocketed it. They were watching children’s programs and I asked them to change the channel and they refused. I asked them for the remote of the television and they said there was no remote, then I got angry,” he explained.
He later took back his words saying that the admission of guilt during police investigations were made under duress.
Today, the presiding Judge Duoth Kulang, said that the now convict used machete to end the lives of the three children.
The judge said the accused has 15 days to appeal the ruling, bringing almost to an end the case which has angered many South Sudanese all over the world.
The murders angered South Sudanese all over the world, including President Salva Kiir who promised to ensure that the killer faced justice.
