February 12, 2022— The Azande tribe of South Sudan’s Western Equatoria State has crowned a new king after more than a century.
In Yambio, on King Gbudue’s day, the Azande Kingdom crowned His Majesty Atoroba Peni Rikito Gbudue as the new King of the Azande Kingdom.
Thousands of people gathered in Yambio Airstrip on Tuesday to receive the new king and different South Sudanese communities Joined the Azande in celebration and making the day remarkable.
Speaking to Nyamilepedia yesterday, the state official who spoke on condition of anonymity said, she was very excited to have learned that a new king has been crowned 100 years later following the death of the previous king.
“.. I was extremely happy because ever since the king passed on in 1905, we had never installed the king” one of the senior official who requested not to be named told Nyamilepedia.
According to senior state official, the last king reigned upto 1905, leaving the Azande without a king for
117 years.
Among sixty-four tribes of South Sudan at least three communities that include the Shiluk, Azande and Annuak have been ruled by a king while the rest have had only chiefdoms.
Among the three kingdoms, the Shilluck Kingdom has been predominantly active to these days in the Colloland.
